This short course will prepare you to administer the vaccine, draw venous blood samples, and work in the ECG lab. Our 2-day intensive course has been designed to address both the theoretical and practical needs of a healthcare professional/ lab technician.

Day 1: Theory

Lecture 1: Phlebotomy and Venipuncture

  • Characteristics of a good phlebotomist
  • Anatomy and Physiology for Phlebotomy
  • Terminology for Phlebotomy
  • Infectious disease; isolation and safety procedures
  • Veins arteries and capillaries
  • Types of specimens (random, timed, multiple)
  • Introduction and usage of phlebotomy needles various sizes and designs and
    butterfly needles

Lecture 2: ECG

  • Introduction to Electrocardiography
  • Anatomy and Physiology of Cardiovascular system
  • Role of the ECG Technician
  • ECG Equipment and supplies
  • Patient preparation, related legal and ethical issues
  • Performing 12-lead ECG

Day 2: Practical Learning

  • Hands- on Practical training on blood and specimen collection
  • Preparing patient and site for blood collection
  • Venipuncture equipment and Vacuum blood collection system
  • Preparing a patient for an ECG
  • Connecting a patient & running 12 lead ECG with rhythm strip
  • Mounting an ECG For a cardiologist to read
